Feeling zapped? Not sure why?
When was the last time you told yourself ‘yes’? Or gave yourself a mental pat on the back? Where do your thoughts take you when you slow down enough to have one for yourself?
Right! THAT’S where all your energy is going. Out, not in.
It’s a good thing for the world, your job, your family. But what about you? That little ball of multi-tasking, never slacking, ‘gotta get it all done’ force of nature is expending more than it’s getting. And guess what? Sooner or later you crash.
Refreshing and regenerating all that spent energy will take more than just sleep and deep breathing to be restored. You’ve got to really pay attention to where all that energy is going. How you’re spending yourself:investing your time, actions and thoughts
For instance, how our emails and web content mine us for reactions and engagement. These sources intentionally push our ‘hot’ button with the latest demand for our attention or action: yet another Congressional or corporate manipulation needing our intervention, any sports-related bad boy ‘bad call’ and, of course, the latest in celebrity feuds and fashion.
While once upon a time we all just watched or read the news, now we’re actively engaged with it nearly 24/7. Between this reality and our own personal ones, there’s very little not sapping away at our energy.
And that isn’t even including the one-on-one relationships with those family members, coworkers and/or friends that emotionally drain us.
So, before you referee one more dysfunctional situation – no matter which side of the broadcast, podcast or dinner table it’s on – just say ‘no’.
The world – and its myriad situations and demands – will still be here needing an energy source to feed it. If you don’t honor your own energy level, that energy source will not be you.
Be proactive and not reactive when situations and people need your attention. Leave the anxiety, anger and angst to those who feed and thrive on them. You do not have to engage.
Instead of saving the world one mouse click or ‘like’ at a time, save yourself and preserve your energy for you. Just for the amount of time it takes to rebound, let the world have your back while you replenish and recharge what you’ve allowed it to suck out of you.
It’ll still be there and, with a little care and self-preservation, so will you.
So, honor your energy. Help save the planet. Help save you.
